Backporch Almanac
These rules cover the photos people share in Backporch Almanac, on iPhone and on iPad. Backporch is operated by Carat International LLC ("Backporch," "we," "us").
1. What you can share
Photos you took yourself of plants, animals, insects or the sky. A shared photo can be seen by everyone who uses Backporch, labelled with your county and the day, for 30 days. Before anyone else sees it, it's checked automatically, and an AI service decides any photo the checks aren't sure about.
2. Never allowed
- People's faces.
- Nudity or sexual content.
- Violence, gore or cruelty to animals.
- Hate speech, hate symbols or harassment.
- Anything illegal, or a photo you don't have the right to share.
- Text, advertising or contact details written into a photo.
We don't tolerate objectionable photos or abusive behaviour. We remove an objectionable photo as soon as it's found. The first time, you get a warning. The second time, that device can no longer share photos. A photo that shows a face or writing, or isn't nature, simply isn't shared, and it doesn't count against you.
3. Reporting a photo
Press and hold any shared photo, then tap Report. It's hidden from you straight away, and the photo is checked again automatically. A photo with 4 reports is hidden from everyone until it has been. You can also press and hold to Block the person who shared it, and you won't see their photos again.
To report something by email, write to [email protected] with the species, the county and the day on the photo.
4. Your own photos
You can delete a photo you shared at any time from the app. Shared photos are deleted automatically after 30 days. Our privacy policy explains exactly what is sent and kept.
5. Your plan
Backporch starts with a free week, then needs a subscription: $4.99 a month or $39.99 a year. Apple handles the payment and the renewal, and you can cancel any time in your Apple Account settings. Apple's standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement applies to the app.
6. Map and pollen content
Backporch includes Google Maps features and content. Their use is subject to the Google Maps End User Additional Terms and the Google Privacy Policy.
